How do these people not wander into traffic?
I'm a bartender at a small town casino, demographic is mostly old people with nothing better to do, and kids who picture any casino like it was Vegas. I'm constantly amazed at how some of these people can get through life.
Four times this week, I've had people (adults!) walk through the dining area during dinner service, past the dozens of tables of people eating, come straight to the bar, and ask if we serve food.
When we have big parties (50-100 people), we split the bar and have one side do casino/floor service, and the other one waitstaff only, and we'll put up nylon ropes with signage. Apparently this is far too complicated, because I still have:
-
People (multiple!) who knock the "Waitstaff Only" sign down, pick it up and put it back, and then obliviously try to order
-
People walk past the floor service area to the waitstaff only side, note the sign, then lean over the rope to try and order
-
Similar to above, people who walk past the floor service area, note the sign, sit at the closest seat and order, then leave
-
And the people who just intentionally ignore the signs because they're entitled (heyy I can be a waiter for the night right? wink wink)
I used to like old people...

Sorry but I'm not sorry but old people are one of the worst people to wait on; they can be impatient, demanding and oblivious to their surroundings. Sorry you have to deal with all those assholes!
Most of my clientele where I work are old. Some of them are absolutely adorable. Some of them still think it's 1975 and its ok to leave $5 on a $68 bill. And some are just so miserable they're just waiting to die and you can't make them happy no matter what. They're lonely and miserable and they get their kicks by going out and trying to make others miserable.
You're right :) Some are adorable- I had a lady last week and it was her 88th birthday. She ordered two vodka soda's and a Fish Fry- cutest little lady ever!
