[How I failed] There is blood dripping down the staircase.

Gethsakzul, former Dwarven Mining Fort

19th Galena, year 250

There is blood dripping down the staircase. A mind numbing stench of rot, decay and death is making it hard to focus on writing. There are corpses everywhere - in the sleeping quarters, in the halls, they must be hundreds. The once beautiful meeting hall is now a bloodbath with crazed animals hiding away in the corners behind the statues. miasma is clogging every hallway, spreading through the smashed doors in every room. We can't even begin to keep up with burying the dead. For now all we try is to keep them out of the hallways. The storages assigned for corpses are filled up to the ceiling with the dead and their severed bodyparts. The rooms are not big enough, so in an effort to limit the stench and miasma a lot of the bodies were brought down into the mines. Their stench will surely poison the whole fortress for years to come. After four months the cycle of clean up efforts and new outbrakes finally comes to a standstill. We decided to seal off the entrance, but we have to clean the terror that is blocking the main hallway first. There are 5 survivors, all of us infected.

  • Erib Emgashlorbam "The Lonesome Contigencies" Numolmingtuth: He emptied his stomach again and again trying to clean up the remains of the loved ones he himself slaughtered. He lost all emotion a long time ago, the only two fellings that remain are disgust and rage. He has become a savage fighter. He has slayed at least twelve dwarves.

  • Ngoso Stasostlogu: His mind retreated into itself, not letting much of the outside world in anymore. Again and again he is confused why he can't find his wife anywhere. He used to be iritated because of the crowded halls - that is not a problem anymore.

  • Mosus "Blazedgalley the Constructive Steel of Idols" Sakrithedegel: She avoids any contact with the gore that surrounds her. She get's sick whenever she gets too close to the miasma filled hallways so she is sort of locked into the lower workshop area as of now where she is producing charcoal like nothing happened. Maybe because it covers the smell? She has seen the slaughterhouse but her main concern is missing her late friend Kosoth. She keeps asking me where he is. I don't think she is aware of it, but during her rages she has slayed at least eight dwarves.

  • Endok "The Venerable Tear" Titthalmedtob Lanzilvim: Mayor of the mess that once was a promising outpost. He has seen way too many of his citizen die to stay a sane dwarf. He is merely disgusted by the rot and miasma and isn't even bothered by the dwarf blood that covers his legs and feet from wading through the gore anymore.

  • Asen "Horntrumpets" Shegetsakzul, She is horrified beyond comprehension. All she does is brewing booze out of the fruit we have stocked up. I have never seen a dwarf this drunk for that long. Good for her.

I won't sign my name, I am not the dwarf that was given it. Actually I don't even think I'm a dwarf anymore.

Timber, year 250

I believe about three months have passed. Winter has arrived. The hallways are still painted red with dried blood and filled with miasma, which silences even the last echoes of activity. Once a month there are no dwarves living in the mountain anymore, just 5 crazy bloodlusty werelizard that don't know what else to do but roam the hallways in search for something to release their rage on. The mad creatures even slay each other, the last moon has cost two lives. All I live for is to seal off the single entrance to this cave of horror with a wall. Afterwards I will hide these notes in a safe spot and surrender to the chaos. I don't think Mosus knows she is infected, she seems to live in another reality. She is helping me construct the wall but she hardly talks anymore. I guess there is nothing left to say. I believe I saw a dog in the lower levels, but we don't go there anymore. We dumped a lot of bodies down below and I'm scared all this evil might have taken form.

Full moon Opal, year 251.

Erib slashed my belly open. Time to die. He and Mosus are last. I can hear them fighting. I tried, oh I tried..

The wall is not finished
