Is there a mod just for general improvements (not expansions)?
For Warband. Just some small random things that seem like a lot of people might want, like automatically sorting all lists alphabetically, disabling path-finding variation, cattle herding options, etc.

Since you say no expansions, I guess you do not want something like Native Expansion? You seem to be specifically looking for small alterations, so if Diplomacy is not your thing, I think you will need to make your own module, be it by changing some text files or adding scripts that do what you want.
I wouldn't be opposed to further additions, but this is my first playthrough and I wouldn't want to make it too complicated unnecessarily. Do either of the mods you mentioned add a bit of user friendliness?
