low carb vegan diet

fruits, vegetables and legumes

Yeah, really - pick one!

46
DressedUpFinery•

People who don’t know anything about nutrition think that carbs only count as things like bread and pasta.

47
ManyLintRollers•

I bet this is it ... she is convinced she is eating a low-carb vegan diet because no bread, pasta or refined sugar but doesn't understand that fruits, vegetables and legumes all contain carbs and calories also...

Probably eating tons of fruit, dousing everything in salad dressing, and adding lots of avocado and nuts because "low carb" and "healthy," baking vegan treats using lots of maple syrup and coconut oil and not realizing they often have *more * calories than a normal brownie or whatever...

26
jesuslover69420I'm CICO your fatlogic•

Maybe she means low carb as in the only carbs she does eat come from those things.. not necessarily that everything she consumes is already low carb. But then again you can’t really rationalize fatlogic

3
emiruE•

yeah, like, there's nothing wrong with fruits, vegetables or legumes, but except for a few vegetables they are nowhere near low-carb.

37
mmeeplechase•

I think maybe she was just throwing out the healthiest-sounding terms she could think of while secretly downing those Big Macs & bagels... (not that there's anything wrong with those things! I love bagels in moderation).

17
IAMA_Skeleton_AMAF/5’6” CW:140 GW:125•

Hey, a bagel is only ~300 calories! Add in a tbsp of peanut butter (100cal) and you’ve got a pretty reasonable ~400cal meal! :)

I often have a bagel for breakfast; I just make sure I eat a little lower calorie the rest of the day. And pack in the vegetables for sure. :)

9
bannana_surgeryfactphobic•

I love a bagel & butter for breakfast but I have to go to the bagel store and just get one there or I'll have multiple bagels for breakfast :'(

People really do not understand macronutrients. I didn't understand until I started using MFP a few years ago. It sort of blew my mind that you could classify basically all foods into three broad groups. So many people think carbs = grains/wheat/breads.

3
RaspryLosing weight is easy, breaking habits hard.•

Devil's advocate here.. Low-carb is generally defined as <150g of carbs and you could easily be below that with vegetables, legumes and fruits (in moderation).

This person is completely right. That's how I lost all that weight. I saw a thin guy right off the street, explained my plan to him, lifted up his shirt and licked his gut. Two days later, after his flora had colonized my stomach, I started losing weight and haven't stopped since. I haven't lifted a finger to exercise or changed my dietary habits. I'm telling you, it was the flora all along.

Now we're planning to start our own line of weight loss centers.

You're so lucky you found a nice person to let you lick them. So many of the skinny bitches act like you're crazy when you ask. It's just them trying to keep their skinny privilege away from you.

Truth be told, he was reluctant to let me at first. But then I instructed him to let go of his internalized fatphobia and reminded him that all I wanted from him was to help me succumb to the unrealistic and oppressive beauty standards set by patriarchy.

23

I think we all know the best thing about thin privilage is denying people a lick of our magical gut bacteria whilst we sip water and slowly munch on a tiny salad. ;)

I can't wait until people start reporting that this is being used as a line to convince people to give rimming a try.

Edit: damn autocorrect. Why would I want to autocorrect rimming to running? They are two totally seperate things that people shouldn't be confused about the difference.

You can make them beg for it. Marketing is a beautiful thing.

It is really a thing: https://youtu.be/VzPD009qTN4?t=4m25s

Although it can only make you want to eat unhealthy food. It can't make you gain weight out of thin air.

1
squirreliestgirl•

LOL, this person needs to watch Secret Eaters. Tons of people trying to lose weight eat those foods and think it just doesn't count if you eat a lot of kale, too.

Also, diet of legumes? Peanuts are delicious. I could definitely get fat off them if I ate all the peanuts I wanted.

37
ManyLintRollers•

Haha, I totally used to do that. I would eat a muffin (400 calories) for breakfast and then think "I should have eaten some protein with that -- all that sugar will shock my insulin levels" so I'd make some eggs also -- and then wonder why I kept putting on weight.

13
squirreliestgirl•

A bowl of cereal and milk was one of my all time favorite snack foods growing up and into my young adulthood. When I finally started counting calories I had that holy shit moment of how small a serving size of cereal actually is. Cereal is a sometimes food for me because I'm so used to eating it in high volume.

10
SilviaScytheCheesecake and pork chops everywhere•

A proper serving size of cereal is pretty darn depressing

8
sjsmiles•

Even more so if it's granola. I could so very easily eat 8x the serving size.

3
Umlautless35|F|5'8"|HW:220|CW:165|GW: 30%BF•

Same. I've basically given up cereal. Sometimes oatmeal for dinner, but not often.

7
Daztur•

What works for me is a small bowl of yogurt with a sprinkle of cereal. A lot more filling for the same calories.

This was a comment chain on an article stating that if you cut 500 calories a day (and it gave the example foods in the first comment) you can lose 1lb a week.

Cue people who have been dieting (but not counting calories) stating that dieting doesn't work, CICO doesn't work and it is all down to our gut flora and hormones. While it might make a bit of a difference, you can still lose weight regardless, it just might be slower going.

Also, I often eat snack or junk foods and I have lost weight. Is my diet the healthiest in the world? No, but I'm working on improving it piece by piece. For nutrition the quality of your calories are obviously important but for weight loss, you could eat a 100% kit kat diet and lose weight. You can also gain weight on a vegan diet - I could easily eat enough rice for five people every night if I didn't weigh my portions.

Bonus for the guy and his wife at the end who are eating yet another diet they're not enjoying rather than eating smaller portions of the food they like, and will declare, when they get bored and give up, that it is impossible to ever lose any weight.

I never get tired of telling people I lost my first 30 lbs on MCDONALDS because I stopped eating when I hit my calorie goal.

(I was in a bad place mentally when I was buying MCDS daily. Now I've learned to cook.)

Eating 'healthy foods' is the way to lose weight was my own special brand of fatlogic. I was convinced that I had to eat some special healthy diet in order to lose weight... right up until I lost my first 10 pounds eating ramen, mac & cheese, taco bell, and chips. Was a hell of a lot easier for me to commit to a permanent change in eating habits when I realized that I didn't have to forever give up all the shitty foods I liked to eat.

18
Joedirt1985•

Taco Bell has some pretty great items, calorie wise.

7
Kangela•

I eat Taco Bell at least once a week. I have still managed to lose another five pounds since December because I work it into my caloric needs for the day. I even eat gasp a bagel sometimes, because I make it fit into my calorie budget.

I love the “no one trying to lose weight eats these foods”. Wrong. It’s completely doable as long as you can also practice moderation and self-control.

High five.

Someone beat you to it. Fecal transplants are a thing, and it's been suggested they could help with weight loss.

Some people would rather literally eat shit than eat less.

summerslegatoCW: Smol birb GW: Medium-sized wolverine•

I know, they occasionally do it at the hospital I work at but it's mainly for people with recurrent C. diff and not yet a part of the weight loss fad. Of course, the whole procedure that goes into making it safe for human consumption is what I would be skipping by pilling my own....but if people are okay with the tapeworm diet I'm sure they'll accept my poo-pills with open mouths!**

** I'm kidding about the whole pilling my own poo thing, mostly...

5
sp3cial_snowflake•

To be fair I guess a lot of the "it's my gut flora" people will decide real fast it's not their gut flora after all, when you present them with the option to get fed someone else's poop through a nasogastric or nasoduodenal tube lol.

getanewpassword•

I'm losing weight and I have soda. No Big Macs as I prefer Wendy's or bagels because I don't like them, but I have Starbucks, pizza, chips, cookies, muffins, ice cream, and Chipotle because I don't eat it all on the same day every single day.

I'll have a boiled egg and some fruit with cheese for breakfast, a wrap, salad, or sandwich for lunch, and some protein with veggies for dinner.

I don't have a Venti sugar bomb with a slice of cake disguised as a loaf for breakfast, a candy bar and soda as a snack, Chipotle for lunch, chips and another Venti sugar bomb for a midday snack and carryout dinner with chips and cookies in bed.

11
Rackalackin•

Yeah, I don’t trust someone’s who low carb diet includes lots of fruit and legumes to accurately report what they’re eating.

I really like the idea though of the secret to weight loss being gut flora, but doctors ignoring it because...reasons.

But you can change your gut flora. I know someone who went from lactose intolerant to eating tons of dairy with no issue, after she cleaned up her diet and started eating more (lactose free) yogurt. I have no direct evidence about what caused this shift, but I do think that the yogurt combined with just eating less crap in general made a huge difference.

6
ManyLintRollers•

Yes, you can do this. My daughter became severely lactose intolerant after having surgery and being on megadoses of antibiotics. It took several months of taking probiotics but she is able to eat dairy again without trouble.

5
Joedirt1985•

I eat all of those things, especially on my work days (manual labor). Those are my favorite days because more work hours = more carbs. Bagels and burgers please.

And I lost weight! And now maintaining.

5
MishtaMaikan•

Ate junkfood every day alongside of more nutritious stuff while losing weight. In moderation. Under my TDEE. What you eat is irrelevant to weight loss as long as the total calories stay under your TDEE.

Weight loss isn't some silly purity test where you signal your virtue and hope to be graced by weight loss if you convince enough people of "how good you've been".

3
wine_mom_420•

Ive lost weight eating nothing but frozen lasagna and wine, it's not healthy but it's a caloric deficit anyway
