Not a good poem, but one that mattered

This isn't good poetry, in many ways it's quite plain and generic, but I wrote it on Valentine's as my relationship and my life in general was crumbling, so it mattered to me. There are many ways it could be better, but it was an outpouring rather than something I deliberated.

Too often I forget after what we've been through

That the best thing I have in life is you

.

I've ground you down, I've made you cry

I've brought you to the point where we may say goodbye

.

I don't want to be without you, I don't think I can

But I know that means I must be a better man

.

I need to bin the cigs and cut back the booze

Because you're the one thing in my life I can't lose

.

I will do everything I can to try to repair

The heartfelt love that has always been there

.

I hope I've not left it too late for you to see

That I still want my future to be about you and me

.
