Looking good! I’m a certified convert now after about a year and a half. I order about 10 lbs at a time now. Still roasting in my cast iron skillet with a lid on my outdoor gas grill and it works great. Can do about a 1/2 lb at a time.
I got two pounds of free green beans when I bought a new grinder from Happy Mug. I roasted about half of a pound of Bali Blue Moon in my electric oven at 550°F. I got a few minor burns on my fingers, but I think the beans turned out great. I can't wait to taste them!
Thanks for all the help!
Let me know how it turned out! I’m slowly building up the courage to start roasting my own beans as well, I’d love to hear your experience. Enjoy!
I started roasting for the first time last week with a popcorn maker. Wasted a few,was too cautious not to go too dark. I blended different roasts yesterday. Peru medium + Peru Dark + Brazil dark
Just do it! (and be ready to open some windows if it gets smokey)
Dang it, I will! Gotta save up some more though hehe
It went well, btw. Of course, my second batch went much better than the first, but both were very acceptable to my tastes.
That Bali from HM is VERY bold. If you are a cream and sugar person, maybe add a touch extra. If not, prepare yourself for it lol. We use it in a small batch blend with Sumatra and Brazil for my mom, who likes a little coffee with her cream.
Thanks for the heads-up. I normally drink it black. I guess I'm in for a wake up call. Haha.
Haha make sure you're sitting down! But for real, if you are a fan of the bold earthy coffee's you will probably like it. Being so bold, it is relatively forgiving when roasting, as you will have similar tasting notes from City+ through the end of 2c. Personally, I like it blended with something like a light Ethiopian to give it a bit of a bright acidic fruity taste. Think of it as a stout vs an ale in the beer world
I think the Bali was a good pick by the guy from HM. I told him what I liked and asked for his expert recommendation knowing that I had never roasted before. I loved it. Great stuff. Would roast again. ;)
