Edelweiss-KRDS Dev Diary #3 - Yuki Iwasaki [Paternal Autocrat]

Welcome one and all, to our latest dev diary and our latest waifu! This time, we'll be visiting East Asia and the land of the rising sun, in order to take a look at a girl who exemplifies wealth, militarism, nationalism and everything reactionary.

Yuki Iwasaki was born during the final months of the Weltkrieg to a life of power and privilege. Her family proudly traces its lineage back to a samurai clan that has loyally supported the Emperor from the Sengoku Jidai to the Meiji Restoration. More recently, they gained immense wealth by investing in Japan's growing industry and finance during its modernization, becoming leaders among the Zaibatsu and securing a place in the upper echelons of society. Today, her father is a prominent executive in the Japanese military-industrial complex, and her mother is one of Tokyo's most well respected ladies, frequently hosting elite parties and events. Yuki herself works diligently with the finest tutors to hone her skills and to prepare herself for leading the Iwasaki clan in the future. Now, she's gone to continue her studies in the west, so that she can further her education and make her loving parents proud. They are Japan's model family.

Or, at least they're supposed to be. If Tokyo gossip is to be believed, then the Iwasakis are still reeling from the death of Yuki's older brother, her only other sibling and the original heir to the family fortune. Some say that the new heiress and her parents don't actually get along half so well as they pretend to. Some even go so far as to say that she's gone to Geneva precisely to get as far away from her family as possible.

No matter the reason, Yuki is determined to make Geneva her city. Brash, bold and more than a little arrogant, she's used to getting her way and getting the respect that her position damn well demands. But despite her... 'strong will', anyone close to Yuki may find her to be kind and caring in her own ways. It's just getting close, that'll be the hard part.

Now here's some awesome concept art by our awesome artist, u/ButteryIcarus

when it comes to the land of wo, just say no

I am loving how telling these family portraits have been.
And I am just as certain that Yuki understands her place must be to support her family and their ambitions, regardless of the constraints that puts upon h - pffft, fp can go get bent. So, hmrn, where to start...

Will we get to understand more about how the events in her family life shaped her, and led to her arrival to Geneva, possibly? Is there anything she misses from home, minor things that wouldn't spoil any possible arcs..?

What does she think about modernism, and in particular the intricacies of high society life - ah, but I expect her to be brash and outspoken in all matters, so, I guess I'll find out eventually, hehehe.

I've asked it before, and I'll ask again - favourite flower, food, and book? Keep in mind that none of these are meant to be answered, exactly, but to provide food for thought - though I've got a good feeling that you've already got that covered!

You'll definitely learn a lot more about her relationship with her family and the associated drama, which is connected to why she's in Geneva. She's more of a modern girl herself, though she comes from a more traditional family, at least for women. Keep in mind that she's now living in Geneva on her own, so she has more freedom for herself here. I'm not sure about a favorite flower or food, but her favorite book is 'Little Marin and the Sailor.'

Ahhhh, thanks so much!
I'm so excited to learn even more about her! (And really stoked to hear that you're not just using the rudiments of ideologies for characters, and likely have all sorts of surprises; every dev diary just makes me more and more amped!)

Though, with that taste in literature...
I should probably ask if she's the type that prefers the adaptation to the original work? Hehehe!

and all of the profit their labour produces skips over them and goes straight to the bourgeois, note also how its a factory producing tanks to fuel Japanese imperialist conquest abroad.
