Wow... This deal was too good to pass up, was trying to hold out for the longest time on Ryzen, but just ordered the 1700X for a whopping total of $212!!! Now I'm waiting to see what features the Series 400 boards comes with, or may go for a cheap B350 board... Thanks for the post!
cheap B350 board
if you go for a b350 dont go Gigabyte ... normally my goto company but they got worse sadly...
Thanks, going to wait at least for details of Series 400 boards to be unveiled, and then weigh them against any discounts to be had for the B350 boards. With all the early issues with Ryzen Motherboards, the safe bet would be to go with the Series 400 boards, though, since hopefully all the issues would've been ironed out by then.
no issues with my asus b350-f Strix my CPU even down clocks while oc without issues.
Take what he says with a grain of salt. My AB350 Gaming 3 is doing just fine. Tired of people and their biased negative drivel in regards to it. I had some weird issues when it first came out because I got a launch board but it's matured well over time and im running the F21 bios. Only recent issue is that the backup bios loaded up when playing with memory timings, reflashed F21 back over and its been fine.
I've also been happy with my Gigabyte AB350M-D3H. I got it fairly early but by the time I set it up the F3 BIOS was out, I put that on before ever using the system and I've only had 1 very minor issue: I had to tick an option in the Realtek Audio settings to stop notifying about new devices being inserted into the front audio inputs of the case, as it would randomly notify even when nothing was inserted. For all I know it might be a case issue, not mobo.
The VRM heatsink could be bigger but in gaming the VRMs never reach more than ~60c and in long Handbrake encodes they never go above ~80c in a warm room with my 3.7ghz overclock (basically what a stock 1600x would be running in Handbrake) and all 12 threads churning away. I usually use Ryzen Master to quickly apply a lower 3.6ghz overclock before I do long video encodes and it drops temps. significantly with only a small decrease in speed.

Very tempting, but I think I'll wait for ryzen 2700x or 2800x.
Welp, guess I'm getting a 1700x now!
Thanks for sharing, fella.
I just got clue glue all over myself!
where do you get these gift cards from?
Seem like amd trying to get rid of stock for the new amd. I think its much more powerful
I feel like the biggest threat to Ryzen gen 2 isn't Coffee Lake, it's Ryzen gen 1. At least as long as there are stocks.
Zen 1 has been a fuckload of CPU horsepower for the money. I wouldn't have my current CPU without AMD.
Should I buy the 1700 now if I don't plan on upgrading 3+ years from now?
1700 is fine and will last much longer than that, especially so if you plan on going 1440p eventually.
well, depends what your current CPU is. If it is a bottleneck in your current rig, YES. If not, you can wait - but Ryzen is still a fantastic CPU. Ryzen 2 may be better, but you could always wait until Ryzen 3, or 4, and then never upgrade because there is always going to be a better product later.
I'm waiting for Ryzen 3rd gen.
Same.
