Best way to play X-Com 2 couch coop?

Hi, I'm looking to play this with my GF in a coop fashion.

I'm thinking best way atm is to use a steam controller that we pass to each other from the couch (I have 2 but I don't think both control the same screen like in XCOM1)

Do you have any viewpoints on how this could best be done? Is the steam controller crap for xcom2?

Any mods that would help?
