Disposing used razor blades

I wanted to start using a safety razor, but I realized that the blades are usually not recyclable through many cities obviously for safety reasons. I've seen some other posts from r/wicked_edge that they put them in a homemade sharps container with a soup can then throwing the whole thing into the recycling bin after sealing it shut. Is that safe or should I dump the whole can into the trash?

How do you guys dispose of the blades when your sharps container is full?

Edit: Thanks for your suggestions guys! I got a response from my city's waste management and they say that if you put all your blades into a soup can, seal shut with duct tape, I can bring it to my drop off recycling depot as scrap metal.
