How to give compliment to close people

I rarely give compliments ever. I feel like I should appreciate ppl around me more since I’d feel good being appreciated.

How should I compliment without them being ‘what’s wrong with you today?’

I don’t seem to have trouble complimenting my colleagues or strangers though.
