Motivation at work

Hey guys,

My wife is due in October with our first so, as per usual, I'm over analyzing just about everything I can think of. I'm 31 and have been working a standard corporate career since graduating college at 21. I like my job but I'm not passionate about it to where I care to work more than my 40ish hrs a week. My wife and I make pretty decent money and utilize health benefits through our companies.

Given that...how many of you saw your work/life balance change (in either direction) once you had your first child? I know fatigue will be a huge adjustment, especially early on, as well as the overall excitement of being a dad. I guess my "worry" is that I'll really start underachieving once the baby is born. I'm definitely someone who prefers a balanced life over grinding my way up the corporate ladder (AKA as long as we're more than comfortable, I'd take less money to have more family/free time).

Did any of you notice you cared less about work once your baby was born? Did you use work as an escape and increase productivity? I'm not going to put myself in a position to not be able to help provide financially, I just have a feeling that I'm not going to care about work or give more than an average/bare minimum performance due to wanting to be elsewhere. Any thoughts or stories would be greatly appreciated and I'll probably throw this at r/AskMenOver30/ to get their take. Thanks!
