Mercury/Lead issues in the UP?

Hi there! My family and I are planning on moving somewhere very soon to begin our homesteading dream, and the UP is number one on our list. We're from Texas but my in-laws are vetted yoopers with 100% Finnish blood so lets pretend we're not out-of-towners ;)

My question is if there are mercury/lead pollution issues in the area due to the decades of mining and lake pollution? We're looking right near L'anse/Baraga area where my family already has a place, but I'm a bit fearful to bring my family up, fish or raise animals with any water issues.
