What do you do when you stop reading a book halfway for a while?

Often it happened me to stop reading books halfway, for many different reasons. My question is: do you remember all the events or the names of the characters even after 2-3 months? I use a sticky notes on the last page read with a brief summary. Have you other suggestions? Thanks
