The Second World War was rough. After valiant efforts against the colonialists and socialists, Japan fell to two nuclear bombs that single-handedly destroyed the large cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
We reconciled with the allies, and Japan became mighty. But then, the socialists struck back, and what was once the Cold War quickly warmed up. The Third World War had much less fighting but killed more lives than ever before. As the powers of the world reached stalemate, more great bombs flew across the world, wiping entire civilizations from the face of the globe. In the face of the socialist threat, Japan fell to another onslaught of nuclear weapons.
But, as always, society rebuilds itself. From the ashes of Japan, a number of warlords, daimyos, took power. Of these daimyos, the most powerful was the grandson of the late Emperor Showa, Warlord Kazuto of Tokyo. A brilliant military strategist, Kazuto led his armies to victory against a number of neighboring daimyo, eventually conquering the other capital of Kyoto.
With firm control over the twin capitals and a large strip of central Japan, Kazuto declared himself to be the successor of his grandfather as the Emperor of Japan.
Though the daimyos have yet to be united and many enemies stand in the way, the future is looking optimistic for Emperor Kazuto of the Empire of Japan.
#Government
The Empire is modeled after the shogunate that ruled Japan long ago. However, Kazuto retains the titles of both Shogun and Emperor, granting him absolute power in territories under his command.
Due to the impossibility of single-handedly ruling the nation, Kazuto has hired bureaucrats to manage various aspects of the nation's development, from military matters to welfare. Nevertheless, the Emperor still holds the final decision.
Outside of the territories under direct control, things become rather grey. Though he is nominal ruler over all of Japan, many warlords still roam free and pillage to their hearts' content. The smaller ones kow-tow and pay tribute, but some are powerful enough to resist the Emperor and pose a serious threat.
