How to clean a yarn decorative painting? More below.

It's a painted yet coarse wood and lots of tiny nails with yarn twirled around them to make the image. It is dusty as hell and no matter what I've tried I can't get it clean. To many small spaces and crevices and harsh wood that rips up fibers. Any idea on what to do?
