WTH is this itchy scalp business and is it hypothyroid or Synthroid related?

I'm newly diagnosed with hypothyroidism, just started on levothyroxine about three weeks ago. I'm losing hair constantly and quite used to that, but last night my scalp started itching horribly. I had to take an ibuprofen just to subdue the burning/itching feeling so I could sleep. Is this a common side effect of either the Levo or HT itself? Any remedies? Any help would be appreciated! TIA
