Seabase Room Ideas
Cartographer Room
You would acquire the PDA blueprint after scanning 3-4 fragments spread out across starting biomes (for example, you’d have to explore safe shallows, kelp forest, and grassy plateaus). Once you build the room you have an empty map. Each biome would contain alien map fragment(s) in key locations. After collecting 1 (or multiple?) fragment for that biome, you will be able to add that location to your cartographer room’s map.
I like that you will still have to remember landmarks, use your compass, and learn the beautiful topography of the Subnautica since you will only be able to reference the map in your base. I’m not sure if it’s planned or been discussed, but I’m strongly against having a map on your PDA or a HUD minimap where you could always see your current location. This removes so much immersion of having to learn landmarks and locations for yourself, since you can just rely on your map instead.
I can say the actual ocean is extremely disorienting especially areas with similar landmarks like caves. You turn to look at something 30 degrees to the left, and 165 degrees to the right, and you’re already lost. I think Subnautica does an exceptional job at preserving this feeling, adding to the excitement and desire to explore. My only reservation is that this room may be too redundant with the current scanner room. The Cartographer room could be a new room or a merge/rework of the scanner room.
Control Room (This isn’t my idea, but I’ve seen a couple people describe something like this. I think it's brilliant so I wanted to add some notes in case any of these points weren't already discussed)
-
Control and operations center of your base
-
HUD / control panels like the Cyclops
-
Ability to see all your energy sources and set prioritization of use
-
Ability to turn off base lights
-
3D model that could show location of damage or leaks similar to the Cyclops
What are some other room ideas you have?
