Mandatory 401k contributions?

I recently started at a new job that forces us to contribute 4.50/hr to a 401(k). This is about 25% of my wage. No option to opt out. This is a health and welfare benefit but we do not see anything ever documented on our pay stubs. The accounts also do not show contributions from employees but the money is written as an employer contribution. Is this legal?
