Good starting nations?

I've played Castille for a hundred years, colonised Brazil and got annihilated by France after taking Morocco. I also tried a bit of Japan but found it hard to keep on top of finances. What are some other good nations for finding your feet in the game? I've played a decent amount of other paradox games if that helps?
