Any long time drinkers developed anxiety problems which were later solved by not drinking?

I realize from the title that the group of people I'm looking for is very specific!

I have read that drinking for a long time(heavily/daily/etc) can actually alter your brain chemistry, and in some people can lead to anxiety disorders. I'm wondering if there's anyone here who developed anxiety issues later in life and was able to resolve these issues just by quitting drinking?

I don't get drunk often, but I do drink 7 days a week(and have for many many years), have developed a pretty cumbersome anxiety problem, and I'm trying to avoid prescription medication like SSRI's. I do go to the gym 6 days a week and eat very healthy food. I get plenty of sleep every single night and meditate a few times per week. All of this combined isn't enough to quell the random bought of anxiety that I have. I'm curious if long-term drinking is what has put me here, and if it is that simple to get out.

My line of thinking is that if over time, your brain chemistry has changed for the worse due to alcohol consumption, then quitting drinking might reverse that?

Anyone have input on this?
