On the federal tax cuts: I was talking to a colleague and expressing my excitement over the extra $$$ I'll have now that they're in effect; they said that next year most (incl. me) will OWE money, not save -- is this true?

DISCUSSION

In essence he said "yeah well it'll hurt you in the long run because while you come out ahead this year, next year you'll owe the government more money than you gained this year, this hurts the middle class blah blah ..."

He did mention that his accountant explained this to him and I have no reason to doubt that, but yeah, unverified.

I'm not a potato by any measure regarding finance but much of what he said she (accountant) said went over my head.

Thanks in advance for the answers!

PS - I file single status with 1 personal exemption no dependents btw. I stand to save 2k/year in federal taxes due to the cuts.
