Playing League away from home

I've been working away from home Monday-Friday for 3 years now and have left playing LoL to the weekends. I've recently decided I want to reduce the amount of time I play League at the weekends. This either means that I play the same amount of League but somehow play during the week (main constraint is connection speed in hotels) or, I find another game that can give me the same satisfaction as League without the high-speed internet requirements. So:

1. Has anyone been successful playing League on mobile internet of any sort in the UK? How good is coverage by each provider?
2. Does anyone have any suggestions of games that satisfy them in the same way as League without the high-speed internet requirements?
