Tips to Move Across Country - Job Applications and Apartment Hunt?

Hello PF,

My husband and I are looking to move back to Florida near our family from Michigan. We are currently situated in a too-expensive loft ($1100 rent +electric heat - $400/mo in winter with thermostat set at 66 degrees). My husband currently has an hour commute to his job as a mechanical engineer with 4 years experience at his job, I am a new RN. Our lease is up beginning of August, I will officially have 1 year's experience.

We need to move from this apartment, and we have no ties to Michigan. What is the correct method to moving across the country, having housing secured (with a 60# Labrador) and ideally at least one secured job? When do we apply? I don't know how to maneuver this while also needing to find housing.
