Does Barovia connect to Faerun?

In the Curse of Strahd, I get the feeling that Barovia is on its own plane of existence, like the Fey Wild or Shadowfell. However, the Vistani travel to and from Barovia via the Old Salvich Road.

Is there a canonical place the Old Salvich road connects to Faerun or some other area existing in D&D? Looking at some maps of Faerun, the Golden Way goes off the map eastward. Perhaps it could join up with Barovia's western edge there?

I'm considering how to get my players "back home" after they vanquish Strahd, and want to keep my options open to taking them through higher level campaigns like Rise of Tiamat. I'm even considering having some Vistani bring gossip of faraway lands as it relates to the events in Horde of the Dragon Queen.

Thoughts? Am I overcomplicating things?
