How to Make ETH in CK and Why Fancy Breeding is a Race to the Bottom

Full disclosure, these are just some observations I thought might be useful to other players on the current economics of CK.

I see a lot of posts asking how people make money 'playing' this game. Here's a quick rundown of what people are doing:

  • Breeding Newest Traits + Selling*
  • Breeding Newest Fancy Traits + Selling*
  • Breeding Only Fancies + Selling*
  • Buying Shit Cats + Reselling at .001 or .002 More
  • Buying Shit Cats, Breeding, Reselling for Fancy Genes
  • Buying Cats, Breeding for "Pretty Cats"
  • Selling Cats for Cat Charities

The ones marked with an asterix can take real skills, because the more people jump on the breeding boat the more prices crash and most people stop buying the more expensive cats. If people stopped marking down cats and selling them at less than breeding cost that would help, but that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon. Generally speaking, more ETH goes in than is coming out anytime soon.

Next up: Fancies are a poor way to spend ETH. Why?

  • There are cats more rare than 1/88, 1/250, 1/500, 1/1000 on the market
  • You can buy quality discards from the breeders and mark them back up to sell
  • You can buy tons more cats you actually like for less ETH than it costs to breed a single fancy (unless you get very lucky)
  • Many fancy cats drop in price dramatically as they're being created because breeders need to recoup their ETH and it ends up being it a 'race to the bottom' to sell these 'special' cats. Bad for breeders, good for buyers.

Hopefully this helps some CK players wondering about the economics of the game. Be smart, play smart, buy smart.
