Chrome battery hog? Unacceptable. Help me?

Small rant incoming: but the amount of battery than Chrome uses is completely unacceptable, doesn't matter for me what site I look at (forums, occasional news site for when I don't want their app), it always soaks up battery like crazy.

Yesterday was 20 minutes of use for 7% battery drain - that's insane!

Is this tweakable so my battery woes can be alleviated? Best alternative (although I will be annoyed losing the cross platform syncing)?

I'm on a Pixel 2XL and the remaining performance is nothing short of stellar, just want to make it perfect :)
