Anyone else not doing save the dates? When are you sending out invitations?
I always considered save the dates to be an unnecessary expense for us since almost all of our guests are local and most we see on a fairly regular basis. My fiancé told me last night that he’s getting nervous about invites for our September 29th wedding. He thinks that we should be sending them out May 1st at the latest. I said it’s pretty standard to send them out ~2 months in advance, but since we’re not doing STDs (har har) we could push that up by a month or so and send them in late May/early June. A lot of our friends and family work retail/other shift work and I feel like they probably wouldn’t request off that early or would completely forget about it before the rsvp deadline if we sent them over 4 months before the wedding.
Does that sound reasonable? There are only a handful of people who would have to travel AT ALL if they come, and we can definiitely reach out to them before formal invites go out. On the other hand, we’ve been trying to keep our budget as low as possible, but we’ve got a little wiggle room. We could swing some cheap vistaprint save the dates, but it feels like a waste of money and paper, and I’m already weirded out by how much money we’re going to spend on postage between invites and thank you notes.
