Reprints, Rarities, and Prices. Does WotC officially acknowledge the secondary market for Magic cards?
Hello all. I'm a relatively new player and enjoy playing Modern as my format of choice.
I've noticed that reprints don't do much to lower the market price of in demand cards. Printings at rare and mythic do almost nothing to affect the long term affordability of in demand staple cards. The raw number of cards does not change that much in the marketplace with so few cards printed at higher rarities. Demand still outstrips supply by a longshot.
Does WotC officially acknowledge the secondary market for Magic cards?
If no, then there is no excuse for NOT printing in demand cards to grow the player base by giving them more opportunity to open packs with desirable cards. (Modern can sell packs, look at [[Fatal Push]].)
If yes, they should sell specialty products/themed sets/whatever with these in demand cards to increase their profits. (They are a business and can service the demands of their customers directly.)
Challenger decks seem to address this, but I feel those may be more a response to FNM attendance.
TL;DR I'm angry I didn't get a playset of [[Snapcaster Mage]] when it dipped in price for a few weeks after MM2017 was released :)
