/u/jgardner on How can conservatism survive if every generation strays away from the traditions of the past?

This is a philosophical debate, and u/Bad_Seller hit the nail on the head: We're all going to die, so what's the point of anything?

Conservatives don't find success in changing society (or rather, stopping society from changing.) That's not our priority. We find our success, or joy, in living life according to unchanging, objective, universal standards.

Society will always be changing. One day, we'll have freedom, the next, we'll be in prison. Through it all, you can be conservative and enjoy life regardless of what happens. We're the ones who keep pointing out that nothing has really changed, despite how much things have "changed".

Look into Stoicism to start to get a grasp of what conservatism has to offer.
