Are apartment prices total or per person?

Hey, I feel like this is kind of a dumb question, but my friend and I are searching for apartments next year and we can't figure out if the rent listed is total or per person. We were using apartments.com, and he wants to pay less than $700 a month if possible, but when I filter with that as the max I only get like 4 results. I'm thinking maybe the prices are total, because I know there's lots of places for cheaper than that.
