Suggestions on jazz songwriting?

Hi! Working as a one-on-one music teacher as a last minute substitute for a student who has a passion for jazz and wants to start writing her own stuff. She's 17, has some music theory training, and a soulful voice.

I'm looking for ideas on how to get her to start digging into composition and lyrics creation.

What are the standard song composition formulas for jazz?

What are general rules when creating a jazz piece?

Any tips on how to get her comfortable putting pen to paper (or notes into a computer composition program)?
