Need Advice -- Have a MicroServer at home and I want to run a Node/MN

What do I need to do to protect myself and my network? I know most people go with a server farm option, but I have a microserver sitting at home that doesn't do anything. I thought I could make it useful for the time being and run a node of some kind.
