Did someone copy my credit card?

I got a fraud alert today from my credit card company. I logged into my account and saw that someone had made $300 worth of purchases at 2 local chain stores. I checked and my card was still in my wallet. I’m just wondering how someone could make purchases at local stores without my card. Did they make a copy of it somehow? Is it likely that they got my info from a skimmer or something?
