The Future of Dodger Stadium

For now Dodger Stadium remains entrenched atop a hill overlooking downtown Los Angeles. It's been 56 years since the stadium first opened it doors and you can certainly tell. That's not a completely bad thing. Dodger Stadium is nostalgic, and very clearly puts baseball atop it's list of priorities. Most other stadiums have slides, convertible roofs, water falls/fountains, etc. But Dodger Stadium is one of few that gives you baseball and only baseball. It vibrates a 1950-60s aura that you can certainly feel and see throughout the stadium. But there's also the fact that the stadium was designed for an era where the population of the city was 2 million and the county, 4 million. Since then, the city's population has doubled to 4 million and the county is now at over 10 million and continues to grow.

The stadium's biggest fault is its lack of access. Sitting atop a hill has its issues. Los Angeles is a car-dependent city and getting in and out of the stadium is a nightmare all of us know well enough about. Getting mass public transportation up/down to/from the stadium is a problem. The metro buses that take you to and from the stadium are great but really do not do much to alleviate the troubles. While Dodger Stadium focuses strictly on baseball and baseball only, it's mainly because it has no other choice to. Building entertainment venues such as bars and restaurants are not bright business ideas as 5 months out the year these venues would be sitting atop a lonely hill with not much else around. All of these issues are big money makers just looking for a way to be executed.

Which leaves us with some questions:

What do you think happens first? Los Angeles City/County implementing an effective public transportation solution or the Dodgers moving locations?

What do you think will happen to Dodger Stadium in the next 15-20 years?

What would you like to happen?
