[Alabama] Can a landlord charge for stained carpet

So here is the situation I moved out of an apartment at the end of Feburauary and I cleaned the whole apartment. I received my security deposit minus 50$. I just received the check and I called to see why I hadn't received the whole deposit I was told the carpet was in bad condition and this was noted on my move in inspection. I was also told the carpet was going to be replaced with hardwood when I moved out. Should I try to dispute this?

So basically I moved in to an apartment with carpet in a terrible condition and it was noted and they are charging me for the bad condition of the carpet.
