Hey pals. I recently upgraded my Tandy 1000 TL/3. Please indulge me in conversation.
I finally got tired of browsing eBay and endless thrift store electronic sections and bit the bullet - an 128k video memory upgrade, an 80287 math coprocessor, and a Kingston KNE20T NIC.
Parts from China, Poland, and even the US. Spent around $30, all told. As the purchases may or may not have involved some scotch, I initially ordered up the wrong memory (happy to mail it to anyone who could use it, btw).
I also had to order up a 3.5” usb floppy, as there’s just no other way to get the NIC going without it (that’s still en route....also from China).
So yep. While I’m waiting for that, I’d be really interested in any/all experience (tips, tricks, etc.) you all might have to share with these machines. The memory is functioning (displays “768k” at startup), but I don’t know how or if there’s any way to verify that the coprocessor is doing its thing. There’s no built in function that I could find, anyway.
The install was pretty straightforward (replaced the battery, too) and didn’t seem to warrant any pics (sorry). This is how I share my excitement.
