Buffet/cake help?

Food & Drink

I know this isn't totally wedding related as such, but I hope this is cool posting here? My wife used r/weddingplanning religiously when planning our wedding and all you guys were super helpful.

Next june (2019) will be our 5th wedding anniversary, and since we were told we wouldn't get that far, mostly by my family we plan on having a (very) small vow 'renewal' ceremony and then a huge anniversary party with all our family and friends.

For the party we were thinking of doing it kind of mad hatters style, and just serving cakes, tarts, cookies, apple pies etc. At parties neither of us are big fans of food, and any we have had in the past always have tons of buffet food left over, neither of us being a huge fan of (and since my wife is vegan most of which she cant eat either).

Would that be ok do you think? or would it be better to do a light finger food buffet? the party would be starting around 7pm so in my opinion plenty of time for guests to have eaten before coming. Also how would you word just cakes on an invite?

Thoughts and ideas welcome. thanks :)
