I can't remember HS Mathematics, should I be worried?
Hello guys,
I recently asked a question regarding the exploratory program and now I'm back with another question/concern.
I have always been good at math, I hope that does not come off as arrogant. During my ninth grade I moved from Puerto Rico to the United States, I struggled at first with my English. Classes in Puerto Rico are way slower in comparison - for example, I was never thought advanced fractions or the basics of algebra, and so much more, so when I arrived at school in the U.S. I had two disadvantages - I basically skipped two/three years’ worth of math education and the language barrier. However, I was still able to maintain an "A" in mathematics throughout high school, even though I did not really understand the teachers - I learned as I went and I understood written English, math just comes easy for me, at least most of the time. I know that high school and college education is very different and students that thrived in high school can find college extremely difficult, I don't want it to sound as if college Mathematics will be a breeze because I'm fairly certain that will not be the case.
I applied for Electrical Engineering but unfortunately I did not meet the requirements, instead, I was placed in an exploratory program. I graduated high school three years ago, I never planned on going to college mostly for financial reasons. I never took my ACT or AST, because I was not planning on going to college. I'm planning on guiding my course towards EE, so that in the future I can declare EE as my major. Now that I have been accepted into school I must take a math placement test, and for the love of the Math Gods, I cannot remember anything off-hand. I have been studying for the last few weeks as a refreshment and everything has been clicking kind of easily but I have to take the placement test within the next two days. At the moment, I don't think I would get a good score, I know it would be better than what it would've been a few weeks ago but I don't feel confident. I know that once I start my math classes everything is going to click in and if it doesn't I could just find the subject online and relearn it.
My question is: would starting with a lower-level math class affect the chances of me being able to get into the EE program? If you "forgot" all your Math after high school, how did you overcome it in college? Is there any advice you can give me? Any experience you would like to share?
P.S: I apologized if my thoughts seemed a bit scrambled, I typed this in a hurry during break. :*
