Why don't the devs fix the borders?

This is one of my biggest gripes with the game. I am a gigantic history buff and this really breaks my immersion. The borders aren't clean. You can't recreate accurate post-war Europe or even an accurate current war Europe. This could be simply fixed by breaking up some states and slightly fixing others. I don't understand why they haven't done that already. Does anyone know anything about this?
