Moving a car ?

I might want to move my car instead of driving it from MN to NC in a few months, because my roommate has a car and it would be easier to just drive one car. I get that it could cost $800 or $1000 to transport the car. What I do not understand is how do I store my car for a few days or a week before the move, and where is the car stored on arrival in the new city, etc? Do I pay a daily storage rate for the car? Never done this before and I certainly would not want to lose track of my car in the process. Plan is to move from MN to an airbnb in NC in August. Once there I would want my car though there is not huge rush as my roommate would have her car.
