Baldwin Hills to Whittier at rush hour

I'm meeting a friend in Whittier (near Whittier College) after work and I'll be coming from Jefferson and Rodeo in the Baldwin Hills area. Does anyone have any recommendations for the route I should take? It seems like it's gonna be awful no matter what I do, but I was wondering if taking the streets (Slauson, perhaps?) would be faster than taking the freeway. I've also considered taking 10 to 60 (briefly) and taking Whittier Blvd. the rest of the way. There just doesn't seem to be a good way to get there at this time.
