Kirby Star Allies is basically the game I've been waiting 15 years for.
First off, I apologize for this story being a bit personal, Kirby is a game series that holds a special place in my mind due to so many great memories surrounding it, anyways.
My first Kirby game was The Crystal Shards on N64, to be honest the ability mixing was fun, but not something I missed when I moved on to Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. Something that really stuck with me from Kirby is how much I enjoyed the multiplayer. My sister and I spend countless hours replaying Amazing Mirror and 100%ing the game.
Around this time I discovered Kirby Super Star, I game for a console I didn't have (I had a Genesis instead), and saw the helper mechanic from that game. I was enthralled in the concept, I remember watching Arena speedruns for hours on end imagining how cool it would be to play as Kirby's enemies.
A bit later we got to see the trailer for Kirby Adventure GCN. I was waiting years for this game, I rewatched the trailer religiously. Helper characters and 4p co-op was the dream for me. Forming 4 player totem poles looked so cool to me. This game blew my god damn mind, it was around this time I also had a fascination with the idea of Broom/Cleaning Kirby.
Kirby's Return to Dreamland was amazing to be sure, but I really was hoping for my friends and I to be able to play around with a helper system in addition to Dedede, Bandana Dee, and Metaknight. That's where Star Allies comes in 4p co-op with both Helpers and full characters like Bandana Dee and Marx. Star Allies is basically the culmination of everything I want out of Kirby. Ability mixing a la Kirby Squeak Squad is a really nice bonus on top of it, that game is criminally underrated. Not to mention cool shit like Beetle, Ninja, Suplex, Spider, Staff, and Cleaning all in one game. This is shaping up to be one of my favorite games, so yeah, get hype.
