Looking for resources in LH comping techniques for piano

I often struggle with LH voicings, they often either sound too low and muddy or, when I try to avoid that, they're so high that they end up stepping on whatever I want to do in the RH. This is especially the case for me with the range between Eb and Ab. I end up going to the root/fifth in the LH way too often, which feels like cheating to me. Any advice is appreciated.
