Re-writing Fates: Revelation. Help me understand the Hoshidan royals.

General

Hello! I'm working on a storypatch for the Fates: Revelation pathway to go along with the GGG patch, but I never really got the Hoshidan royals on the same level as I did with the Nohrians. Below is the framework I'm using based on their Birthright personalities.

Sakura - Wise but lacks confidence in herself. Is respectful and demure. Flaws: Speaking Tone: Warmly formal, as if she's speaking to an authority figure she admires. Speaks with a stutter when flustered.

Takumi - Brash, skeptical but with a kind heart underneath a gruff exterior. Speaking Tone: Angrily informal, like you just stepped on his dog's tail. Prone to outbursts and rude statements.

Hinoka - Reluctant corrector of siblings. Attempts to put on a tough exterior like Takumi, but has trouble keeping the mask up. Wears her heart on her sleeve despite attempts to hide it. Speaking Tone: Informally hot and cold, like she just saw a child play a joke on someone and is chiding them while trying not to laugh. Can be respectful to authority when necessary.

Ryoma - Leader of his siblings and country, made responsible before his time. Duties require him to be quick to action, but his impulsiveness comes with a lack of forethought. Has surprising insight and wisdom to offer during peaceful moments. Speaking Tone: Coolly formal, like he's an arbiter trying hard to remain neutral during a dispute between friends. Can be stubborn at times.

Does that look right? Agree/Disagree?

I'd love to hear other people's assessment of the Hoshidan Royals so I can really get their voices nailed down. Let me know what you think!

Big part of Sakura her character is how strong her will is despite her timidness. In conquest for example how she's resolved to defend Hoshido and in Revelation she's the first of the royals to trust Corrin and stands up for him/her multiple times.

She also will punch you out if you wake her up wrong.

Big ole Takumi fan here. I think the biggest thing that needs to be taken into account with him is his insecurity and terrible lack of self esteem, similar to Sakura, which is where his exterior gruffness stems from. They both think themselves weaker and more useless than their older siblings, and that comes out as frustration with and high standards for himself (pushes himself in training; would rather be left behind when injured because he sees himself as a burden; desires recognition for his actions). In many supports, he usually keeps to himself until someone says or does something that makes him react and go on the defensive/offensive. Generally not as unabashedly rude as he's made out to be, mostly hot headed.

Great insight, thank you!

Sakura has this need to help others that can border on self-destructive if people don't reign her in. A fear of being useless or weak, I think. She doesn't feel she is worth more than others. Conquest 22 showcases this very well imo.

If you want to understand Sakura better, I direct you to this piece of perfection:

Yes, it's a fanfic. A very, very high quality fic. Sakura's portrayal was very faithful. And if you don't think SakuraXLeo is the OTP, this will prove you wrong, haha.

Re-writing Fates: Revelation

Godspeed.

Ryoma: His devotion to his country is only toppled through his ever loving affection towards his family.

From being the first royal to affectionally accept Mikoto taking over the role of Queen Mikoto, to always trying to find some way to make Azura feel love and accepted, he's always yearning to take responsibility for things he believes is wrong.

Has a deep understanding relationship with Hinoka where she completely understands how Ryoma feels at times but strengthens him whenever he feels down trotted or weak. Also the sibling he feels most comfortable around as they love to screw around with eachother through jokes

Loves his sibling Takumi and his saddened when he sees Takumi trying to compare himself to him and wishes to let him know that he doesn't have to follow Ryomas path of the warrior and rather there are more avenues to help his kingdom.

Loves Sakura and believes she tried to push herself too hard. Hates too see her fight as he believes that she's far to young to fight and does generally oppose it.

Loves Corrin although most of his love towards Corrin is through hard guilt.

He believes that Sumeragi and Corrin were not saved because he was not strong enough to stop it. Has a hard conviction to stop his other family members from befalling the same fate that both others have.

Seems to understand that not all people are bad in Nohr however believes that Garon is an unreasonable Tirant who needs to be stopped.

Loves his son in not only the sense of him being his son but also by the fact that he loves hanging out with him. He also seems to enjoy his little competitions between him and Shiro within the Fates Manga.

Also implied to cry at Sumeragi's death

Can be dense

Things that would be OOC for Ryoma: If Hinoka tells Ryoma to do something or believe someone he will not do it.

Trying to kill Corrin [unless he personally killed a member of the Royal family]

Ever trying to say that Azura was not apart of the Hoshidan Royal Family.

Fully willing to let Sakura fight.

Hate his son Shiro.

Hate any of his family members.

Believe in/trust Garon.

Not so much trying to correct as asking to clarify, but I remember Ryoma being surprised about the Nohrian's being so peaceful when they reached the underground market in Birthright? I thought Ryoma legitimately didn't know anything about the people of Nohr. I don't doubt he knows Garon was a tyrant, but I thought a big thing with the Hoshidans was a general ignorance of Nohr due to their nations history of conflict. I know that's a big thing in some of Corrin and Silas' supports in Birthright at least.

In the Japanese Script Ryoma was surprised that the Nohrian underground city seemed so much like Hoshido. Not that the Nohrian citizens were peaceful.

Also the quick taking to the Chevois, a Nohrian Settlement, makes me think Ryoma didn’t believe all Nohrians were untrustworthy/bad people.

Fantastic write up, and excellent OOC info! Thank you!

I'm not the biggest fan of Hinoka, but I know her better than the other royals so I'll try and help out. She's a total tomboy, first and foremost, so her speech should be rough but kind. It's because of Corrin getting kidnapped as a kid, she felt guilty for not doing anything so she worked her ass off to not feel useless anymore. She likes to have agency in her situations, so she tends to do things herself, or at least play a major role. She tends to rush into decisions impulsively, and she doesn't back down from her decisions. Because of her impulsivity and refusal to take back her decisions, she can be seen as a bit immature, but it's not due to competitiveness like Takumi.

I think you should write a bit on the relationship between Ryoma and Hinoka!

They're support completely made me warm up to Hinoka

I’m being a broken record, but for Takumi, I feel the Birthright Drama CD has good material that could be utilized.

You could help showcase why Takumi treated Corrin the way he did outside of skepticism.

I'm ashamed to admit that I forgot that these were out there. Watching Takumi's chapters gave me a much greater insight into his character. Thank you!
