I love how direct and down to earth the poem is. In that sense, there isn't that much to critique. I think that it reads as a little snippet of a thought train that's pretty romantic. While the glinting eyes metaphor was a bit jarring, I think that it made sense since this seems to be a stream of conciousness poem.

Thanks for the kind words!  I was going for ambiguity as to whether the speaker and their muse had been asleep together or awake together before they needed breakfast, so I didn't want to wrap it all up in too specific of a way. 

Interesting poem that invokes the memories of making breakfast for someone.  I do wish that it started with something that combines these themes to grab the reader's attention and combines all these thought provoking words together.  But I do love the simplicity also so I'm a bit torn on suggestions.

Looking for happiness in simplicity and beauty in routine, especially beauty in the minute differences between one time around the circle and the next time around are two pursuits that keep me going in life. 
Smell can be the sensory anchor for some of our most vivid memories. It makes me feel positively that my words could help you smell a delicious breakfast!

Good grief I like this poem. This is a prime example that descriptive, succinct imagery doesn’t require filler. Taking something as universal and ‘routine’ as cooking breakfast and making it memorable is art. Touching on whimsy in the end is also very endearing. Is it weird that I could smell what you were chopping?

The best breakfast is a calm, unrushed, happy one.  And that is what the weekends were born for.  I'm not big on rhyming, but this poem feels like it would have been great for it.  Upbeat poems are the only ones that are read good with a rhyming scheme.  That's my opinion though.  Now I'm hungry for an omelet!  Thank you for the breakfast imagery.  I can smell the searing of the onion in the pan.

    rising, donning  
    washing, chopping  
    peppers and onions  
    cracking and mixing  
    an egg in a bowl  
    oil is shimmering  
    hot in the pan  
    I think of the glint  
    in your eyes when you smile  
    and hope you will come  
    downstairs to be with me  
    when you smell breakfast
