Many Thanks to the Planetside 2 Community Today, Tomorrow, and Onward

Planetside 2 was one of those games so vast and saturated that I wasn't sure whether it would help me cope with my depression or continue downward in a spiral. I now know which way it took me. It helped me cope, and I'm better because of it, both in ability to press and click buttons but also in mood and attitude towards other people.

Now I've dumped my fair share of salt in the past. I'm sure many of you don't care whatsoever, but I'm also sorry about hurting anyone's feelings and I'm going to trash talk less in the future. I can't think of anybody that deserved my verbal abuse, especially not RTPS. Sorry, RTPS.

So why the change of heart?

The community. You guys. Perhaps its because I played too much League of Legends in the past, or because I was too used to my own saltiness, or because I don't have too much of a life outside the internet, but I am pleasantly surprised by how kind and friendly people are in this wide open world of guns, guts and glory. I have met people that I have rage-told and yet took it with grace. I have met players far better than me that could dismiss me as trash and yet they didn't, opting instead to give advice. I have met people I have told that I have autism, and not once have I ever been ridiculed for it, nor do I have reason to believe that will happen in the future. And I have met people that are warm and fuzzy whether drunk or sober.

I would give shout-outs, but there are too many people to list, and I don't want to miss a name.

So anyhow, I am humbled by all y'all, and am happy. It was enough in the past that I legitimately enjoyed the game by itself and I got by as a lone wolf. Now I'm legit happy while playing this game, for both its existence and its participants, and would rarely opt out of a squad invite.

If you're reading this, I'd like to thank you and hope you have a fucking fantastic day. Peace.

If you scratch the salt crust of the vets they are mostly pretty nice below I found out for myself.

All the best!

The Planetside 2 community is family as far as I'm concerned.

Unless you main Heavy with more than 40% playtime, those guys are like the uncle at the family reunion your mom tells you to stay away from.

Especially Tummy.

Stay away from him, he's done time for NS-15 abuse.

I'll... keep that in mind during squads...

Good for you for finding something that helps you get through the troubled times, and thanks for being part of this enormous and pleasantly-dysfunctional community!

Offtopic, but sorry (again) for TKing you last night, I had just swapped off of my NC character and was experiencing a slight "hangover". I would say it won't happen again buuuuuttttttt it's probably going to happen again.

I forgot you did that lol no problem

That's what happens when you spend too much time playing NC, right...?

Also, remember that time a friendly mossie rammed into you during your 571-kill-streak during 4xp week, crashing your game to desktop and causing you to lose all of your earned certs in a massive bug report? That was me. I would say it won't happen again, buuut... it's probably going to happen again.

Glad you're doing well, my dude. Planetside has helped me cope with my pending anxiety diagnosis, too. The community is stellar.

I'm here if you wind up needing to talk to someone. :)

It’s really pleasant being killed and given advice, or killing and giving advice. A little circle of positivity

I used to be like this too.. really bad back in my WoW days.. I'm trying to change.. and this game especially has helped me through my deep depression and various serious medical issues, and I know I've had a few "relapses" and lashed out at people and of course people will always bring your worst moments back up any time you try and take the high road or fight the good fight going forward, but it's good that you decided to work on it <3 and I hope you have a fantastic awesomesauce day too!

The PS2 community sure is awesome in general I must say (both on reddit & in game),

Had lots of enjoyable moments with the community during my past PS2 experiences.

Stay fabulous!

People love to throw the "toxic" keyword around when it comes to this community but it really isn't any worse than any other online pvp game. Little more hostility towards Devs than usual but that's pretty well deserved.

Interesting. Being frank, you are a player I have had an altercation or two with in yell chat (when I was being generally salty myself) and I had you solidly pegged as a shitty asshole who throws out baseless trash talk and insults. I think it's always good to be reminded that especially because planetside, as fantastic of a game as it is, can by it's very nature have times where it feels very frustrating or unfair, many people who are otherwise good and nice individuals have bad moments or bad days where they let their salt get the best of them.

I know I myself have sent my fair share of post tk ragetells, salty yell chats, or cynical taunts to players that in my view stepped out of bounds. But several of them have also led to friendships or mentorships once the conversation moved past the initial anger or salt. I think it's important to be reminded to step back and keep in mind that everyone you're being salty to is a human being who's probably a decent person just having a bad moment or day. Seeing this post I think I will put aside my previous grudge towards you and approach things fresh in the future. Good luck and have fun.

I do like to trash talk, I must admit. Sorry about that though. Seems like I took it too far. You have good luck and have fun as well. What’s your in-game name if you don’t mind reminding me?

I gotta say, as much as people shitpost on reddit this community is still far better than most out there. Met many amazing friends through this game that probably would've otherwise been buried under all the toxic or immature players that plague other communities.
