*dropped this on a text document after a little overindulging in Conrad Aiken... and forgot all about it, don't think too much of it, cut it up if you'd like, but no; I will never give up on alliterations, they are the best thing to happen to philology since the run on sentence.

BENEATH THE WAVE

Shutters shake upon their frantic frame,
The lightning, the lightning sets the sky ablaze,
Wetted, iron leaves felled from weighted boughs,
As the crowd dispersed from their nightly coterie
Returning a borrowed rose to the solemn maze.

What flash of sound... strike of light stirs the sleeping?
The trumpeter playing his post then exited the glade
To heavy water descending, rushing, screaming forth,
Singing the sea's corporeal gush, held once...
And forfeited to crimson wakes, gouged - and again unmade;
Still, chilled feet plunge proudly down the stair
With mercurial ropes and laces of fire melting the air.
It all melts into the air.

In distance - all clashes, there, afront the waveblown tower,
Where the fragment of the visage lies entombed,
Its bones of directionless amplitude! Little rumination abides
The drowned landsmen lost to the sea, hapless till exhumed;
Still, chilled feet plunge proudly down the stair
With mercurial ropes and laces of fire melting the air.
It all melts into the air.

Twin-peaked, the azure edifices crowned. Cascading
White-crested swells pounding in tyrannical roars;
To the frontmost chamber, life came -- beholding life
Atop the balcony, storms reigned upon the shores,
In threads of polyvalent dreams and pearls rare,
It all melts into the air.

Un et Deux
