there is a monster that dwells in a boy's head
the monster is small, but it will grow as it feeds on the boy's mind
the boy lives a good life
he goes to school
where he meets his plethora of friends
gets good grades
and does well in multiple sports

remember, there is a monster that dwells in the boy's head
a few months have passed
the boy begins to feel tired
he is unable to sleep
before, sleeping 8 hours
but now 4
he sees the world less vibrantly
the colors in his surroundings seem dull
it's less fun to hang out with his friends now
it feels like he doesn't fit in
his friends have fun
but he'd rather be alone
so he stops going out

remember, there is a monster that dwells in the boy's head
the monster has consumed a part of the boy's mind
now leaving gaps for more monsters to feast on the boy
there are now monsters that dwell in the boy's head
the other monsters fill in the missing gaps
they tell the boy that he is worthless
that his achievements aren't enough
that he is a disappointment
that there is no love for him in this world

remember, there are monsters that dwell in the boy's head
the boy has added an extra step into his morning routine
he dons a mask
a mask that looks like the old him
but only in the fact that it smiles
and beams happiness to everyone else
and nobody can see beyond this mask
unable to realize the pain and suffering

remember, there are monsters that dwell in the boy's head
one day the boy talks to his father
his mask beginning to crack
his facade shatters
tears sting his eyes
there on his knees
begging for help
the father listens
and looks coldly into his son's eyes
and simply says, "stop being a bitch"
the boy has no words
his tears begin to fall
he runs out the house
only to return later that night

remember, there are monsters that dwell in the boy's head
it has been a year and a half
since the first monster has invaded the boy's mind
the boy's days seem to drag on
the once well built athlete
is now a skinny, lifeless husk
that dawdles throughout
the long drawn out day
a friend confronts the boy
asking, "why haven't you been at practice?"
the boy dodges his friend's concerned eyes
and looks a the ground
whispering, "i've been busy at home"

remember, there are monsters that dwell in the boy's head
it has now been three years
the monsters have beaten the boy down
they have broken him
everyday he wishes for them to stop
they've ruined his life
why must they attack him more?
he has problems looking at himself in the mirror
he doesn't see a boy
he sees a mistake
he believes he disgusts people with his presence

remember, there are monsters that dwell in the boy's head
the boy is losing his reasons to keep trudging through his sorrow
he used to tell himself
"one more day, maybe it'll get better"
but that hope has long faded away

remember, there are monsters that dwell in the boy's head
he's been even more restless these last few weeks
he has been up late at night contemplating
why does he endure this grief?
the boy sits at his small desk
he stares at the pen in his hand
and the paper in front of him
and begins to write his farewells
by the end of the night
droplets taint his paper
little splotches in the sea of white
a final confession
a release of his monsters
he wipes his tears away
and takes a deep breath

remember the boy, who had monsters dwell in his head.
