when it’s winter, we’re scared to feel
the classroom linoleum with our faces,

to treat it like the grass outfield
where we could stay suspended
in the wandering summer.
we floated in and out of calculuses
that might have reoriented our world.

sucks how many miles divide us
indifferentially. We’re sick for wherever
the steel spokes set out from
to meet rubber losing flex in the cold.
